Joseph Fiala
Fiala started his musical career as oboïst and ‘cellist and became member of the wind band of Prince Kraft Ernst at Oettingen-Wallerstein in 1774. Three years later he entered the employment of the Elector Maximilian Joseph in München, where he became a friend of Mozart’s, who considered him a composer with excellent ideas and a great coach of wind ensembles. Fiala’s further career took him along Salzburg and St. Petersburg to Donaueschingen. He died in 1816.
His Divertimenti are symphonies on a very small scale in four movements, lasting altogether 8’ to 10’ each.
They are very apt for less advanced players and for pedagogical reasons substitute clarinet parts (for the original english horn parts) are added.
